Track And Find Your Stolen Laptop
If my laptop were to be stolen that would really put a dent in my day! Of course I perform daily backups (don’t you?) but that still wouldn’t help me from feeling violated and really pissed off that somebody else browsed my entire digital life while rocking out to my tunes! Or worse yet, logged into any of my online accounts!
Well, thanks to the geeks over at preyproject.com their is hope! And according to their latest announcement version 0.3 is right around the corner.
What is Prey?
Prey helps you find your stolen laptop by sending timed reports to your email with a bunch of information of its whereabouts. This includes the general status of the computer, a list of running programs and active connections, fully-detailed network and wifi information, a screenshot of the running desktop and — in case your laptop has an integrated webcam — a picture of the thief.
If i’m going to have my laptop stolen I at least want to be the coolest geek in town and walk into the police station with a photo of the thief!
Well, I cant wait to try out the new version! But if your like me and cant wait a few days then here are the official download links of the current version:
Prey 0.1.2, Windows version 285 Kb
Prey 0.2, Linux version 431 Kb
Prey is an open source project and is completely FREE. However documentation on the current version is scarce but you can reference Google’s cache of preyproject.com.
UPDATE:
Prey 0.3 has been released and is available at preyproject.com.
